The Southern Stratford down to the River Avon is one of the prettiest waterways.. Passing through unspoiled countryside and country villages.  as you cruise through farm and woodland you have a good  chance of seeing kingfishers, heron and other wildlife. The sights of historic Stratford upon Avon are also an attraction worth making a diversion for, possibly even a night at the theatre. The North Stratford passesthrough similar countryside until it approaches Birmingham from the south, where the splenders of nature are gradually replaced often by items odf historic industrial architecture, enhanced by the renovation of the towpathsin many places to provide a general recreation facility.

The Grand Union Canal
This was a later development in canal history aimed at developing a useful role for the canals in the early part of the 20th century. As such you are presented with broader and deeper canals with double locks Which offer ascenic route through the Warwick countryside.and bring you close to such national Trust properties as Packwood or Baddesley Clinton. The farm at Hatton Country World is a favourite with the children. You may also find your way to  Warwick, with its castle,  Leamington,  Napton etc. The villages tend to be a short way from the canal, but there are plenty of canal side pubs.

Worcester and Birmingham Canal
From Copt Heath you reach the Worcester & Birmingham canal  via the North Stratford or from the centre of Birmingham. where Gas Street Basin  a good stoping place for shopping in the Center of Birmingham the greenest route through Birmingham. Other accessible places of interest include  the University campus at Edgbaston and Cadbury World at Bournville before reaching the one and a half mile long Wast Hill Tunnel. Then there is  Worcesteritself with many pretty villages,  Tardebigge Locks, Avoncroft Museum of Buildings, Hanbury Hall (NT),  the Cathedral, Porcelain Factory, Commandery and other attractions..

Birmingham Canal Navigations
Birmingham is central to the national waterways network with more waterways than Venice and connections to most other parts of the country. it is also a unique experience viewing it from the waterways as opposed to the roads.. Recent developments have enhanced the towpaths and water frontages making the waterwaysa popular and attractive feature of the landscape. The Art Gallerries and Museums are worth a visit as is the Jewellery Quarter and Sea Life Centre not to mention the vast array of restaurants and bars within a day's cruise of the base, leaving time to explore the rest of these waterways with items like the Black Country Museum - a reconstructed village  and industrial museum that will take a least half a day to get around.
