Comments and Reviews:
From their website:
"Is a registered charity which provides purpose-built,
wide-beam canal boats on the Kennet and Avon Canal from two bases, for
hire for self catering holidays by disabled, disadvantaged or elderly
people and their carers"
It is good to see purpose built facilities like this for the disabled.
Not only does it provide access to these facilities for people with
specific problems, but it also provides safe and reasonable solutions.
Trying to accommodate a wheelchair for instance, on a standard hire boat
would be something of a nightmare and probably not safe unless the
design of the boat was particularly sympathetic to this role - which may
be the case with some boats.
I suppose the ultimate experience is the boat designed so it can
actually be handled safely by somone in a wheelchair, of which there are
a few on the water, complete with facilities like powered steering with
joystick or push button controls.
